The Fight For Bala : ウィキペディア英語版
The Fight for Bala

The Fight For Bala is a documentary by award-winning filmmakers Jonah Bryson and Rob Stewart about the picturesque town of Bala, Ontario, which is under threat. A private developer intends to destroy the environmentally significant Bala Falls – the iconic tourist attraction located in the heart of their community, and an essential link from all the lakes in the region to the ocean. The film exposes the truth behind this development and inspired people to fight for a sustainable future and real green energy.
The film has been featured National Geographic 〔http://voices.nationalgeographic.com/2015/08/05/15-year-old-jonah-bryson-asks-for-your-help/〕 and The Huffington Post.〔http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/rob-stewart/bala-fight_b_7714326.html〕 The film was released July 2, 2015. 〔http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_fight_for_bala/〕 〔http://www.flixster.com/movie/the-fight-for-bala/〕
==History==
For the past 10 years, the town has been fighting the construction of this power plant. However, Bala is a small town with less than 600 permanent residents, and their concerns are not being recognized by the government.

This small tourist town has been battling the proposed power plant that will destroy natural fish habitats and heritage lands, and wipe out the local businesses dependent upon visitors to the falls. Despite overwhelming public resistance and without the mandatory consultation with First Nations people whose water levels and flows will be affected, the developer keeps moving ahead.

All the water going through the Bala Falls, the link between all the lakes in the Muskoka and Algonquin watersheds to the rest of the world and eventually the ocean, could be reduced to a trickle by the power station - funded by taxpayers through a $100 million dollar off-market subsidy.
